Hi
I'm running ubuntu 10.04 and the tv browser 3.0 beta. I just wanted to ask if there is any way to improve the appearance of the the tvb icon as it appears in the gnome notification area. On the new darker ubuntu theme, it looks kind of ugly.
Some other apps had this problem initially with the 10.4 release, but have resolved it with updates; is this possible in a future tvb update?
thanks.
(oh and a quick question: is an official launchpad ppa on the cards for automatic updates in future?)

Re: tray icon in ubuntu (gnome)
The background isn't patchable for us.
It's set to transparent within the origin picture but it seams your java-version didn't shows it correctely.
I don't know weather you use sun/oracle java or open jdk.
But this is definately a problem of the java implementation.

Re: tray icon in ubuntu (gnome)
Yeah, a spot of googling does confirm this as an issue with java (openjdk6 being the default on ubuntu 10.04)
relevant reports at http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bu ... id=6453521 and https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/show_bug.cgi?id=100131 and sadly it seems like a long standing but neglected bug.
I have tried altering the tvb icon background to match the panel but unfortunately this still leaves a 1 pixel border on the right and bottom.
There is a possible workaround mentioned in reply #4 of this thread http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5349901 Maybe this is something that could be looked into for the linux releases?
I have a further glitch to report concerning the tray. The running programmes bars show no text, nor do the programme bars in the submenus below (soon starts and programs at time) (screenshot describes what I mean)

Re: tray icon in ubuntu (gnome)
You should try to use the sun/oracle java.
This hasn't the text tray bug.
You may take a look at http://enwiki.tvbrowser.org/index.php/Install_Java

Re: tray icon in ubuntu (gnome)
I have installed the oracle/sun JVM and the text appears but is not exactly the most readable. Could there be an option added to set text colour in addition to backgrounds for all the programme stuff in the tray? I can probably manually set the background and progress colour for "programs at" to make it look better but this is not possible for currently running programs.
